Water Fund
Philanthropy for the Preservation of What is Vital

HISTORY

A Family Foundation, Rooted in Principle

The Water Fund was founded in 2015 as a part of the Peterffy Foundation. Our founder, Will, created the Water Fund to serve as a new kind of philanthropic vehicle wherein the dollars granted by the fund and the investments made to support the ongoing growth of the foundation would adhere to a similar set of values.

The Water Fund  prioritizes listening, learning, and collaboration. These values stem from a deep reverence for the natural world, and a passion to create a more just and harmonious planet.

The Water Fund focuses its energy and grant making on supporting largely indigenous led and other frontline organizations to continue the great work of preserving and caring for what is vital. This often takes form in holistic projects related to water, land, and culture.  One Small Planet focuses on building trusted relations with communities across the Americas and Hawai’i. We recognize the shoulders we stand on and give thanks for the opportunity to support this profound and necessary work.

PRINCIPLES

RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships are the bedrock of our work together. We are here to listen, empower, and collaborate with those already leading the way.

TRUST

Trust is the speed by which we move and is the touchstone we consistently  come back to. Many of our relations are with indigenous and frontline communities who’s trust has been continually fractured by colonial systems. Our goal is to build trust through  time and collaborative action.

FLOW

Just like in natural systems, flow is a metric of vitality and efficiency. To stimulate flow we responsibly and  strategically use wealth to catalyze systems and generate a higher ROI (Ripple of Impact).

TRANSFORMATION

Through tending to our relationships, building trust, and intentionally working with flow of resources, we believe that systemic transformation can occur.  This is what we are here to do.
